Central Ohio High School Football- Week 6, Part 2

Now, are the Sports Corner picks of Week "Pick Six":

GAME OF THE WEEK:
St. Charles Cardinals (5-0) at St. Francis DeSales Stallions (3-2)- St. Charles is # 1 in their Computer Region, and barring a meltdown (keep in mind, they have Youngstown Ursuline, some Canadian team, Watterson, and Jonathan Alder left), the Cards will make their fourth playoff appearance. Only problem is coming to Karl Road and winning at DeSales. The last time they beat DeSales? 1976. Jimmy Carter, a peanut farmer from Georgia was elected President, America turned 200, the first Rocky movie came out in theatres, the Pittsburgh Steelers were the defending Super Bowl Champs, and Happy Days was the top-rated show on television. Can St. Charles get it done, or will it be, tic-tac-toe, 34 in a row?
Pick: DeSales

SECOND-TIER GAMES OF THE WEEK:
Upper Arlington Golden Bears (4-1, 2-0) at Hilliard Darby Panthers (5-0, 2-0)- Three years ago, the Panthers made their lone playoff appearance so far. Darby had a tad tougher non-league schedule (thank you, Dublin Jerome) than Walnut Ridge and Briggs. This is Darby's first real test, as Upper Arlington comes to visit.
Pick: Upper Arlington

Olentangy Braves (3-2, 1-1) at Olentangy Liberty Patriots (3-2, 1-1)- Both teams were upset last week (Olentangy, by Marysville and Liberty, by Dublin Jerome), heading into the annual "Battle of Olentangy: Lewis Center vs. Powell" for these two schools. Both teams are looking to crack the coveted top eight in their region, and to win the Cardinal Division.
Pick: Olentangy...Liberty

Clarksville Clinton-Massie (5-0) at London Red Raiders (3-2)- This should be a great game in the South Central Ohio League, as London hosts Clinton-Massie. Which London team will show up is the question- the London that blanked (undefeated at the time) Greenfield McClain, or the London that got blown out last week by Jonathan Alder?
Pick: Clinton-Massie

Canal Winchester Indians (4-1, 2-0) at Amanda-Clearcreek Aces (4-1, 2-0)- Both teams bounced back after Week 1 losses to two Central Catholic League powerhouses, to win four straight. However, only one of these two will make it five.
Pick: Canal Winchester

Johnstown Johnnies (4-1, 2-0) at Fredericktown Freddies (4-1, 2-0)- Johnny, meet Freddy. The first to get to the end zone wins. Fredericktown is the toast of the Mid-Buckeye Conference, going 7-0 last year, and looking to prolong their winning streak, by the Johnnies have plans of their own.
Pick: Fredericktown

Granville Blue Aces (4-1, 2-0) at Licking Valley Panthers (3-2, 2-0)- This will be a great showdown in the little village of Hanover, as Licking Valley looks for their fourth straight win after an 0-2 start.
Pick: Licking Valley

Westerville South Wildcats (4-1, 2-0) at Dublin Jerome Celtics (3-2, 1-1)- Last week, Dublin Jerome shocked Olentangy Liberty. Can the Celtics make it two upsets in a row? The only problem is too much Westerville South ground game.
Pick: Westerville South

CELLAR-DWELLER/UNDERDOG GAMES OF THE WEEK:
Columbus East Tigers (0-5, 0-2) at Whetstone Braves (also 0-5, 0-2)- last week, it was Westerville North and Central. This week, East and Whetstone. Someone will get their first win of 2010. The Braves have the edge, because they lost close games to Briggs and Brookhaven, while East allowed 50 points or more in three of their first four games. It will be a happy night in Clintonville, indeed.
Pick: Whetstone

Mount Vernon Rams (2-3, 1-1) at Franklin Heights Falcons (0-5, 0-2)- This is going to be a game full of pride for both schools, as both are in the shadow of the three eminent leaders in the Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division (Big Walnut, New Albany, Watkins Memorial). Franklin Heights should have won by now, but I think they might do so this Friday.
Pick: Franklin Heights

Dublin Scioto Irish (2-3, 0-2) at Westerville North Warriors (0-5, 0-2)- It has been two years since Westerville North has last won on the football field. Two years, and 20 losses later, the Warriors are starving for a win. Dublin Scioto is looking for their first Cardinal Division win, after back-to-back losses to Olentangy and Westerville South.
Pick: Westerville North- Upset Pick of the Week

Briggs Bruins (3-2, 0-2) at Independence 76ers (1-4, 1-1)- Briggs, on paper, has a chance, but in reality, could be a mismatch for the 76ers.
Pick: Independence

Brookhaven Bearcats (2-3, 2-0) at Linden McKinley Panthers (1-4, 0-2)- Brookhaven almost lost in their first two games of City League play, after scoring a paltry 19 points in their first three games. Linden McKinley could be the elixir that Brookhaven's offense needs.
Pick: Brookhaven

OTHER GREAT FRIDAY NIGHT MATCHUPS IN THE COLUMBUS AREA:
Centennial Stars (3-2, 2-0) at Northland Vikings (3-2, 1-1)- Centennial, after 34 straight losses, has a three-game winning streak, and is above .500 for the first time since ending the 2001 season. However, it may be short-lived, as they travel to play a Northland team looking to win the North Division.
Pick: Northland

Grove City Greyhounds (2-3, 2-0) at Lancaster Golden Gales (3-2, 1-1)- Grove City is on a roll, now that OCC Division play is in session. Last week, the Greyhounds came from 22 down to knock off previously unbeaten Groveport Madison. The outcome might not be golden at Fulton Field for Lancaster, as Grove City could make it to .500 for the first time this year.
Pick: Grove City

Whitehall-Yearling Rams (2-3, 1-1) at Heath Bulldogs (4-1, 1-1)- This is not a race, more like a bulldog attack on Whitehall.
Pick: Heath

Columbus Grove Bulldogs (3-2) at Bishop Hartley Hawks (4-1)- Last year, Columbus Grove, out of northwest Ohio (in Division VI) knocked the Hawks off in OT. This could be an interesting rematch, as the Bulldogs haven't beaten a team with a winning record so far, nor have they played a school higher than Division V.
Pick: Hartley

Walnut Ridge Scots (4-1, 1-1) at Columbus West Cowboys (3-2, 1-1)- Walnut Ridge's easy schedule caught up with them as Marion-Franklin exposed Ridge's shortcomings last week. Now, can West High's fast-flying offense lasso the Scots down to earth at Magley Field on Friday night, or will Walnut Ridge prove that they can beat a quality opponent?
Pick: Walnut Ridge

Gahanna Lincoln Lions (2-3, 1-1) at Pickerington Central Tigers (4-0, 2-0)- Remember when Pickerington Central was only one high school, and this was a huge rivalry? Throw out the fact that Pick Central is # 1 in Region 3 and Gahanna is improving.
Pick: Pickerington Central

Reynoldsburg Raiders (3-2, 1-1) at Pickerington North Panthers (2-3, 0-2)- Pickerington North's offense was non-existent last week against Pickerington Central, as the Tigers held the Panthers to only 50 yards of total offense. This week, they could get it back on track.
Pick: Pickerington North

Mifflin Punchers (3-2, 1-1) at Beechcroft Cougars (3-2, 2-0)- Mifflin got the shock of its life during Coach Gregg Miller's short tenure as they lost to a resurgent Centennial team last week. This week, they have to travel up north to play Beechcroft? Good luck with that as the Cougars mauled Linden McKinley last week.
Pick: Beechcroft

Watkins Memorial Warriors (3-2, 0-2) at Delaware Hayes Pacers (2-3, 1-1)- After a great 3-0 start, Watkins Memorial came crashing down with losses to Big Walnut and New Albany. This week, Watkins returns to Delaware County to play Hayes, who was outpaced by Mount Vernon last week.
Pick: Watkins Memorial

Bishop Ready Silver Knights (3-2) at Sidney Lehman Catholic Cavaliers (4-1)
Ready, after back-to-back losses, rebounded last week, with a win in a shootout against Covington (Kentucky) Holy Cross, and the Cavaliers have won four straight, looking to make it five, with a win over these perennial playoff teams, meeting for the first time in six years.
Pick: Sidney Lehman Catholic

Hamilton Township Rangers (4-1, 2-0) at Circleville Tigers (2-3, 0-2)
The Hamilton Township Rangers travel down US 23 to play Circleville in the "Pumpkin Capital of Ohio".
Pick: Hamilton Township

Olentangy Orange Pioneers (2-3, 1-1) at New Albany Eagles (5-0, 2-0)
New Albany is on a roll and there is no grounding of these birds, just yet.
Pick: New Albany

SATURDAY NIGHT GAME:
Columbus Academy Vikings (3-2, 1-1) at Newark Catholic Green Wave (4-1, 1-1)
The Academy running game goes on the road to Newark to play one of the most prestigious small schools in the area. Newark Catholic is coming off their first loss of the season, to Heath. Can Academy run past the Wave under the Saturday night lights at White Field?
Pick: Newark Catholic

...In Two Weeks, Rivalry Friday returns, a dozen Central Ohio High School Rivalries Will Be Chosen as the Sports Corner Games of the Week...
