NFL- Midpoint of the 2010 Season (Week 9)

This is the middle ground of the 2010 NFL Season with Week 9 being this weekend. The season is almost halfway finished. 13 NFL Games take over our television screens this weekend, closing the week with the Monday Night showdown in Cincinnati as the Bengals host AFC North rival Pittsburgh.

CBS has the Doubleheader this weekend.

BYE WEEK: Denver Broncos (2-6), Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4), San Francisco 49ers (2-6), St. Louis Rams (4-4), Tennessee Titans (5-3), Washington Redskins (4-4)

GAME OF THE WEEK: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons (both 5-2)- Sunday at 1PM on Fox; Georgia Dome, Atlanta
Who would have thought that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be 5-2 prior to the start of the season? Only die-hard fans. In fact, nobody thought that Tampa Bay would be in the drivers seat right now at the midway point of the season. Same goes for the Atlanta Falcons, who are also 5-2. After a 39-32 win over the Bengals, in which the Falcons led 24-3 at halftime, and were outscored 22-0 in the 3rd quarter, before coming back to win, Matt Ryan and Roddy White were unstoppable by the Bengal secondary. Ryan and White could have almost that big of a day, but not quite. Last week, Tampa Bay ignited under its defense and young quarterback Josh Freeman in a 38-35 win over Arizona, where the defense scored three touchdowns.
Pick: Atlanta 20-17 (OT)

SUNDAY AFTERNOON GAMES:
New York Jets (5-2) at Detroit Lions (2-5)- Ford Field; Detroit- 1PM on CBS
Last week, Detroit came back and topped the Redskins, winning four of the last eight meetings against Washington, after losing 18 straight meetings in a 30-year span (1968-1997). Also last week, the Jets' five-game winning streak was snapped, as the Jets were the first NFL team to be blanked this year in a 9-0 loss to Green Bay, in which kicker Nick Folk missed two field goal tries. Can the Jets regroup in a battle of two of this year's three Thanksgiving Day hosts?
Pick: NY Jets 20-10

Miami Dolphins (4-3) at Baltimore Ravens (5-2)- M&T Bank Stadium; Baltimore- 1PM on CBS
Fast fact: Miami is 4-0 on the road and 0-3 at home, their best start in road games since 2003. The Fins take their perfect road record on the road to Baltimore, where their offense finds theirselves a brick wall in the Ravens defense, led by such all-pro vets as Terrell Suggs, Ed Reed, and Ray Lewis. All good things must come to an end, and for Miami's perfect road record, the streak will end on Sunday in Baltimore.
Pick: Baltimore 27-10

New England Patriots (6-1) at Cleveland Browns (2-5)- Cleveland Browns Stadium; Cleveland, OH- 1PM on CBS
The Patriots are the NFL's best team approaching the midway point of the season. The Patriots take their best record to the shores of Lake Erie to play the Jekyll & Hyde Cleveland Clowns, whose last win was against the defending Super Bowl Champs, the Saints, in which Browns LB David Bowens returned two picks for scores. What trickery will the Browns use in this game to try to upset the NFL's best team? We will find out, but no trick play will stop the Patriots as Bill Belichick will return to Cleveland victorious.
Pick: New England 31-13

Arizona Cardinals (3-4) at Minnesota Vikings (2-5)- Mall of American Field; Minneapolis, 1PM on Fox
Could this be (Brad) Childress's Last Stand? According to Fox Sports, it could be, if the Vikings lose this game. Minnesota, favored to win the NFC North this year, is lagging behind right now at 2-5, and Vikes Owner Zygi Wilf is chomping at the bit right now, because not only is Minnesota struggling with turnovers and injuries (Brett Favre), on Monday, the Vikings waived wide receiver Randy Moss, after a 28-18 loss to New England. Derek Anderson sparked Arizona's offense in a 38-35 losing effort last week to Tampa Bay. As of Thursday, Brett Favre is still questionable after suffering a jaw injury in last week's loss to the Patriots. Favre's 292-game streak of starting games could end if he is out. And if Arizona wins, Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress too, could be out.
Pick: Arizona 27-14

Chicago Bears (4-3) at Buffalo Bills (0-7)- Rogers Centre; Toronto, 1PM on Fox
O Canada...the Bills host the Monsters of the Midway in their home away from home, north of the border in Toronto. Will the Bills finally win one? The last two weeks, the Bills lost back-to-back overtime games to Baltimore and Kansas City, and the Bills are desperately seeking victory to avoid being the second NFL team in the last three years to go 0-16.
Pick: Chicago 19-16

San Diego Chargers (3-5) at Houston Texans (4-3)- Reliant Stadium; Houston, 1PM on CBS
Houston needs a win to get its playoff hopes back on track. San Diego needs a win to salvage a season that has been wrecked by miscues (many of them on special teams). Can the Texans get it done against San Diego after a short week of practice, or will the San Diego Super Chargers win one on the road?
Pick: Houston 28-21

New Orleans Saints (5-3) at Carolina Panthers (1-6)- Bank of America Stadium; Charlotte, 1PM on Fox
John Fox's job is on the line, but the Saints don't care, because the Saints will come marching into Carolina and take care of business against the hapless Panthers.
Pick: New Orleans 30-10

New York Giants (5-2) at Seattle Seahawks (4-3)- Qwest Field; Seattle, 4PM on Fox
Who would think that this would be a battle of two division leaders when the schedule was announced in April? Nobody. But, that is why you play the game. Historically, the Giants are 6-15 following a bye week, and 3-3 under Tom Coughlin after a bye. The Giants travel to Seattle to play a Seahawks team that plays well at home, and not too great on the road, as evidenced by last week's 33-3 spanking in Oakland. Look for the G-Men to have a long afternoon in Seattle.
Pick: Seattle 27-20

Kansas City Chiefs (5-2) at Oakland Raiders (4-4)- Oakland Coliseum; Oakland, 4:15PM on CBS
This game was not on the radar of any NFL predictor- amateur or professional, when the season began two months ago. Kansas City was the last undefeated team standing, before falling to Indianapolis in Week 5, while Oakland has reeled off back-to-back wins, outscoring their opponents 92-17 in their last two games. Can the Raiders make it three in a row?
Pick: Oakland 23-19

Indianapolis Colts (5-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-3)- Lincoln Financial Field; Philadelphia, 4:15PM on CBS
The Colts are on a stampede. This is usually expected at this point of the football season, as Indianapolis heads to the city of Brotherly Love to play the Eagles, who are still in a quarterback carousel as Michael Vick is expected to start for the Eagles for the first time since his rib injury in last month's loss to Washington. In 13 years, you can't really stop Peyton Manning. Your defense can only hope to contain him.
Pick: Indianapolis 35-17

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:
Dallas Cowboys (1-6) at Green Bay Packers (5-3)- Lambeau Field; Green Bay, WI; 8:20PM on NBC
Last week, the Pack pitched the NFL's first shutout of the 2010 season in an ugly 9-0 win over the J-E-T-S, Jets, where kicked Mason Crosby accounted for 100 percent of the game's points, with three field goals. Dallas, whose dreams of being the first Super Bowl host to play in the big game, are pretty much over with quarterback Tony Romo out for perhaps the remainder of the season. Look for America's Team to drown in a sea of Cheddar.
Pick: Green Bay 28-3

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:
Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) at Cincinnati Bengals (2-5)- Paul Brown Stadium; Cincinnati, 8:30PM on ESPN
The Cincinnati Bengals have problems finishing games. In their last three games, the Bengals had the lead in the second half, and lost the lead all three times. The Bengals have lost all four games in their four-game losing streak by three (23-20 to the Cleveland Clowns), three (24-21 to Tampa Bay), seven (39-32 to Atlanta after trailing 24-3 at halftime), and eight points (22-14 at Miami), respectively. The Steelers are coming off a Sunday night loss to defending Super Bowl champs New Orleans, and are looking for a big win. Last year, the Bengals swept the Steelers for the first time since 1998, en route to a 6-0 record in the AFC North. This year, the Bengals are a loose cannon, from Carson Palmer missing his targets, to the banged up secondary, to Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco's reality show. This is the first Monday Night matchup between these bitter rivals since 1992, a 20-0 Steeler win, when Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis was the linebackers coach for the Steelers. Roethlisberger has lost two of his last three games in his native state of Ohio, could it be three out of four?
Pick: Pittsburgh 27-7

SPORTS CORNER TOP EIGHT & BOTTOM FOUR (Week 9):
(Bottom Four)

32) Buffalo (0-7)
T-30) Dallas (1-6)
T-30) Carolina (1-6)
T-28) Cincinnati (2-5)
T-28) Denver (2-6)

(Top Eight)
1) New England (6-1)
2) NY Giants (5-2)
3) Tampa Bay (5-2)
4) Atlanta (5-2)
5) Indianapolis (5-2)
6) Pittsburgh (5-2)
7) NY Jets (5-2)
T-8) Kansas City (5-2)
T-8) Green Bay (5-3)

College Football- Week 10 (a Buckeye-free Weekend)

There will be two big top ten showdowns on Saturday afternoon when # 6 Alabama visits # 10 LSU and # 3 TCU visits # 5 Utah in what could be the games of the week in the College Football landscape.

GAMES OF THE WEEK:
# 6 Alabama Crimson Tide at # 10 LSU Tigers (both 7-1, 4-1)- 3:30PM EDT at Tiger Stadium; Baton Rouge, LA
and
# 3 TCU Horned Frogs (9-0, 5-0) at # 5 Utah Utes (8-0, 5-0)- 3:30PM EDT at Rice-Eccles Stadium; Salt Lake City
Two games. Four top ten teams. Big stakes are involved in the outcome of both games. These games will determine the outcome of the Top 10, when the new poll rankings come out on Sunday afternoon.

First up, SEC supremacy. Both Alabama and LSU have won two of the last three BCS National Championships. Both are 7-1 in overall in 2010, and 4-1 in the SEC. Why Alabama should win is because of the play of Greg McElroy, who helped carry the team when Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram sat out games because of injuries. Why LSU should win is because of their 7-0 start, and because the LSU receivers can expose Alabama's secondary, which was exposed in the Tide's loss to South Carolina. Both of these 7-1 teams were off last week, and both have tougher games this November (BAMA: Mississippi State and Auburn; LSU: Ole Miss and Arkansas). If the Tide roll past LSU, the Tide control their own destiny, in terms of returning to the BCS National Championship.

In the other game, you have a battle against two unbeaten schools from a non-BCS conference that are in two of the three non-BCS conference schools in the Top Five (Boise State's the third school), when TCU visits Utah. This will be the last Mountain West game for these two BCS crashers together as Utah moves to the Pac-12 next year. And for the third year in a row, this game has huge BCS implications. Utah, under then-coach Urban Meyer was the first non-BCS school to break the BCS mold in 2004. In 2008, Utah bested TCU 13-10 en route to a 13-0 season and a Sugar Bowl win. Something will give in both the capitals of Utah and Louisiana on Saturday afternoon.
Picks: Alabama and TCU

OTHER BIG TOP 25 GAMES:
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-3, 3-2) at # 22 Virginia Tech Hokies (6-2, 4-0)- 7:30PM EDT (Thursday/Tonight) at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field; Blacksburg, VA
Pick: Virginia Tech 31-20

# 16 Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2, 3-1) at Indiana Hoosiers (4-4, 0-4)- Noon EDT at Memorial Stadium; Bloomington, IN
Last week, Iowa ruined Michigan State's hopes for its first National Championship since '66 with a 37-6 shellacking in Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes fly into Bloomington to run a clinic against Ben Chappell. Speaking of Michigan State, see below...
Pick: Iowa 37-3

Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-8, 0-5) at # 14 Michigan State Spartans (8-1, 4-1)- Noon EDT at Spartan Stadium; East Lansing, MI
The doctor has ordered the perfect prescription to cure Michigan State's hangover after their loss to Iowa: a Saturday afternoon lunch date with the last-place Golden Gophers.
Pick: Michigan State 41-0

# 9 Wisconsin Badgers (7-1, 3-1) at Purdue Boilermakers (4-4, 2-2)- Noon EDT at Ross-Ade Stadium; West Lafayette, IN
Pick: Wisconsin 27-6

# 25 NC State Wolfpack (6-2, 3-1) at Clemson Tigers (4-4, 2-3)- Noon EDT at Memorial Stadium; Clemson, SC
Pick: NC State 30-14

# 21 Baylor Bears (7-2, 4-1) at # 17 Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-1, 3-1)- 12:30PM EDT at Boone Pickens Stadium; Stillwater, OK
Pick: Baylor 45-41

Chattanooga at # 2 Auburn Tigers (9-0)- 1PM EDT at Jordan-Hare Stadium; Auburn, AL
Cam Newton is for real, when it comes to the Heisman derby.
Pick: Auburn 55-6

Washington Huskies (3-5, 2-3) at # 1 Oregon Ducks (8-0)- 3:30PM EDT at Autzen Stadium; Eugene, OR
The really bad news for Washington is that they lost quarterback Jake Locker. Oregon is going to have a field day, especially after last week's 53-32 comeback win over USC.
Pick: Oregon 62-0

# 7 Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-1, 3-1) at Iowa State Cyclones (5-4, 3-2)- 3:30PM EDT at Jack Trice Stadium; Ames, IA
Pick: Nebraska 40-13

North Carolina Tarheels (5-3, 2-2) at # 24 Florida State Seminoles (6-2, 3-1)- 3:30PM EDT at Bobby Bowden Field/Doak Campbell Stadium; Tallahassee
Pick: Florida State 41-13

Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (7-2, 5-0) at # 4 Boise State Broncos (7-0, 3-0)- 3:30PM EDT at Bronco Stadium; Boise, ID
This is Boise's last big test, as they face a potentially dangerous on offense Hawaii squad, with their can offense making an appearance at Bronco Stadium. Nip that one in the Idaho spud.
Pick: Boise State 28-16

# 23 Nevada Wolf Pack (7-1, 2-1) at Idaho Vandals (4-4, 1-2)- 5PM EDT at ASUI-Kibbie Dome; Moscow, ID
Pick: Nevada 27-13

# 18 Arkansas Razorbacks (6-2, 3-2) at # 19 South Carolina Gamecocks (6-2, 4-2)- 7PM EDT at Williams-Brice Stadium; Columbia, SC
Both the Razorbacks and the Gamecocks were victims of the competitiveness of the SEC, now standing in the shadows of Auburn, Alabama, and LSU (all in the Top 10 of the AP and BCS polls). Both of these schools, plus the three aforementioned SEC schools are all bowl eligible. It will be tough to say who wins this one.
Pick: Arkansas 27-23

# 8 Oklahoma Sooners (7-1, 3-1) at Texas A&M Aggies (5-3, 2-2)- 7PM at Kyle Field; College Station, TX
Pick: Oklahoma 38-15

# 15 Arizona Wildcats at # 13 Stanford Cardinal (both 7-1, 4-1)- 8PM at Stanford Stadium; Stanford, CA
This is the first meeting with both of these schools ranked entering the matchup. Arizona has its own quarterback controversy as Andrew Noles returns from a rib injury, not to diss Matt Scott who took over in Noles' absence. The Cats are off to their best start since 1998. Stanford is off to its best start in 40 years, when the Cardinal beat Ohio State in the 1971 Rose Bowl (a year that delusional Buckeye fans claimed that OSU won the National Championship). Stanford allowed the second-fewest total yards in school history last week (107 yards) in a 41-0 shellacking of Washington. Andrew Luck will have a great night at home.
Pick: Stanford 41-21

# 12 Missouri Tigers (7-1) at Texas Tech Red Rebels (4-4, 2-4)- 8PM at Jones AT&T Stadium; Lubbock, TX
Pick: Missouri 24-7

NORTH COAST CONFERENCE:
Wabash Little Giants (7-1, 5-0) at Wittenberg Tigers (8-0, 5-0)
This one is going to be for the North Coast Conference Title and the automatic bid to the Division III playoffs. The Little Giants have a 6-5 advantange over the Tigers since joining the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Kenyon Lords (0-8, 0-4) at Wooster Fighting Scots (4-4, 3-1)
Pick: Wooster 52-0

Allegheny Gators (5-3, 3-2) at Hiram Terriers (1-7, 1-3)
Pick: Allegheny 42-6

Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops (1-7, 1-3) at Oberlin Yeomen (3-5, 2-3)
Pick: Oberlin 23-13

OHIO ATHLETIC CONFERENCE: (all games @ 1:30PM ET on Saturday)
Mount Union Purple Raiders (8-0, 7-0) at Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets (7-1, 6-1)
This is a tough one to choose, as both are 15-1 overall and 13-1 in OAC play combined. Mount Union scored a paltry 28 points in a 28-10 win over Otterbein, as the Cards had two defensive goal line stands against Mount Union. Baldwin-Wallace needs an upset to forge a three-way tie for first place in the OAC (Ohio Northern being the third school). Mount Union will continue its free ride as the instamatic victor of the Ohio Athletic Conference, and perhaps could win their 11th National Championship in the last 18 years.
Pick: Mount Union 35-14

Otterbein Cardinals (4-4, 3-4) at Marietta Pioneers (2-6, 1-6)
The last time the Otterbein Cardinals went to Marietta, they were a perfect 7-0, looking forward to another 8-0 vs. 8-0 showdown against Mount Union, and perhaps a return trip to the playoffs, to capitalize on the success left over from the 2008 campaign. Then, the unthinkable happened as Otterbein was hit by the injury bug, and the Pioneers capitalized on Otterbein's shortcomings and scored the game-winning touchdown with a minute left in a 25-22 Pioneer upset, derailing Otterbein's playoff hopes. While Otterbein may not make the playoffs this year, the Cardinals want to avenge the demon that kept them out of the playoffs last year, in said demon's House of Horrors. And that demon is Marietta. Last week, Otterbein held Mount Union at bay, holding the Purple Raiders to 28 points in a 28-10 Purple Raider win.
Pick: Otterbein 41-24

John Carroll Blue Streaks (4-4, 4-3) at Heidelberg Student Princes (4-4, 3-4)
Pick: John Carroll 28-14

Wilmington Quakers (0-8, 0-7) at Ohio Northern Polar Bears (7-1, 6-1)
Pick: Ohio Northern 41-0

Capital Crusaders (3-5, 3-4) at Muskingum Muskies (3-5, 2-5)
Pick: Muskingum 21-17

OTHER CENTRAL OHIO COLLEGES:
Ashland Eagles (6-3, 5-3) at Ohio Dominican Panthers (both 2-6 overall and in GLIAC play)
Pick: Ashland 39-14

OTHER NCAA DIVISION I-FBS GAMES:
Illinois Fighting Illini (5-3, 3-2) at Michigan Wolverines (5-3, 1-3)- Noon at Michigan Stadium; Ann Arbor
Michigan still has no answer for their ****ty defense, and they can't keep playing Denard Robinson 24/7 if they have any hopes of crashing Jim Tressel's Thanksgiving Party in three weeks when the Boys in (Maize and) Blue play the Buckeyes in The Game. Michigan's defense needs to step it up if they want any hopes of (a) going to a bowl and (b) keeping Rich Rodriguez in Ann Arbor beyond this season. Speaking of Rodriguez, the NCAA concluded their investigation of the extended practice scandal and gave Michigan a third year of probation today.
Pick: Illinois 42-24

Maryland Terrapins (6-2, 3-1) at Miami Hurricanes (5-3, 3-2)- Noon
Pick: Miami 33-16

Florida Gators (5-3, 3-3) at Vanderbilt Commodores (2-6, 1-4)- 12:20PM at Vanderbilt Stadium; Nashville
Pick: Florida 27-13

Boston College Golden Eagles (3-5, 1-4) at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-6, 1-4)- 3:30PM
Pick: Wake 20-14 (OT)

Northwestern Wildcats (6-2, 2-2) at Penn State Nittany Lions (5-3, 2-2)- 3:30PM at Beaver Stadium; College Park, PA
Pick: Penn State 31-24

Cal Golden Bears (4-4, 2-3) at Washington State Cougars (1-8, 0-6)- 4PM
Quarterback Kevin Riley's season is over for Cal, so what seemed to be a sure bet for a win may look like a trap game in Pullman as the Cougs could pull off an upset in Pullman.
Pick: Washington State 24-14

Arizona State Sun Devils (4-4, 2-3) at USC Trojans (5-3, 2-3)- 10:30PM at The Coliseum; Los Angeles
Pick: USC 34-7

High School Football Picks- Week 11, Part 2 (Divisions II, IV, & VI)

On Friday, playoff action will take place in Ohio for Divisions II, IV, and VI. There will be 48 contests in twelve Computer Regions.

GAME/UPSET PICK OF THE NIGHT: Region 6- # 5 Maple Heights Mustangs (10-0, regular season) at # 4 Toledo Central Catholic Fighting Irish (8-2, regular season)
Just because you are 10-0, it doesn't guarantee you a # 1 or # 2 seed, let alone a home game. Last year's runner-up in D-II, Maple Heights travels to Toledo to play the Irish of Central Catholic. The Mustangs could drive up and down the field all night, just like they did in last year's deep playoff run.
Pick: Maple Heights

COLUMBUS GAME OF THE NIGHT: Region 15- # 6 Amanda-Clearcreek Aces (7-3, regular season) at # 3 Columbus Bishop Hartley Hawks (8-2, regular season)
The last time that these two teams met was the season opener, which was also at Jack Ryan Field, where the Hawks embarrassed the Aces in Head Coach Dale Olney's debut, 48-10, which was not the only problem for the Aces at the time. Running back Chet Saum is expected to miss the rematch. Olney insists that the Aces are a better team, so their past playoff experience under former Coach Ron Hinton could come into play for the Aces. This could be a big upset if the Aces win.
Pick: Hartley...again

OTHER GAMES on FRIDAY:
Region 7- # 8 Zanesville Blue Devils (9-1, regular season) at # 1 Columbus Marion-Franklin Red Devils (10-0, regular season)- "Devil-Devil Bowl"
Before I go on, there is a 100 percent chance that the Devils will move on to the second round. Last year, the Red Devils sneaked in with the eighth and final seed in this region at 8-2 and went to business right away by knocking off the # 1 team in the state in Division II, the Louisville Leopards (who missed the playoffs this year, finishing in 9th place). The Red Devils, then went on to knock off second-year Olentangy Orange, and City League foe Brookhaven, before falling to eventual State Champion Winton Woods in a 69-35 shootout in the State Semifinals. Last year, the Blue Devils were 9-1, only losing to St. Charles, and that wasn't even good enough to get the Blue Devils in the playoffs, as they finished ninth. This year, they grabbed the eighth and final spot over quality programs such as Louisville (# 1 in the state last year in the regular season) and a resurgent Hamilton Township (who was 0-10 last year). All fingers are pointing to a Zanesville upset, as the Devils have been nearly perfect this year. But, so have the Red Devils, with a big defense that has only had two close games (Region 5 contender Ashland and Division III playoff contender Eastmoor Academy) this season. Something has got to give on the south side of Columbus.
Pick: Marion-Franklin

Region 23- # 6 Fairfield Christian Academy Knights (9-0, regular season) at # 3 Newark Catholic Green Wave (7-3, regular season)- at Newark White Field
All good things must come to an end. For the Knights, who were winless against OHSAA schools last year, and made a complete 360 with a perfect regular season this year, their season will come to an end on Friday against the most experience playoff school in the 39-year history of the OHSAA playoff system. With 31 appearances and 62 playoff wins, the Green Wave lead all Ohio schools in both categories, and for the Knights, they have the misfortune of having their first playoff game against the cream of the crop when it comes to small Ohio schools.
Pick: Newark Catholic

Region 7- # 7 Dresden Tri-Valley Scotties (8-2, regular season) at # 2 New Albany Eagles (10-0, regular season
Pick: New Albany

Region 7- # 6 Columbus St. Charles Cardinals (5-4, regular season) at # 3 Uniontown Lake Blue Streaks (7-3, regular season)
How is a 5-4 team like St. Charles in the playoffs over teams like Louisville, Hamilton Township, Beechcroft, and Walnut Ridge- teams with 7-3 or 8-2 records in Region 7, that missed the playoffs? Three words: Strength Of Schedule. St. Charles' opponents had a 61-27 record, and that is what the computer rankings look for. However, after a 5-0 start, St. Charles will end the season on a five-game losing streak as they travel up to the Canton area to play the Blue Streaks of Uniontown Lake, whom like St. Charles, is coming off a loss to Bishop Watterson.
Pick: Uniontown Lake

Region 15- # 8 Coshocton Redskins (8-2, regular season) at # 1 Ironton Tigers (8-2, regular season)
Pick: Ironton

Region 5- # 5 Aurora Greenmen (8-2, regular season) at # 4 Ashland Arrows (8-2, regular season)
Pick: Ashland

Region 8- # 8 Dayton Carroll Patriots (7-3, regular season) at # 1 Cincinnati Winton Woods Warriors (9-1, regular season)
Pick: Winton Woods

Region 13- # 8 Perry Pirates (6-4, regular season) at # 1 Akron Manchester Panthers (10-0)
Pick: Manchester

Region 14- # 6 Wooster-Triway Titans (8-2, regular season) at # 3 Orrville Red Riders (7-3, regular season)
Pick: Orrville

Region 14- # 7 Huron Tigers (7-3, regular season) at # 2 Elyria Catholic Panthers (9-1, regular season)
Pick: Elyria Catholic

Region 15- # 7 Albany Alexander Spartans (8-2, regular season) at # 2 Heath Bulldogs (9-1, regular season)
Pick: Heath

Region 16- # 7 Waynesville Spartans (8-2, regular season) at # 2 Plain City Jonathan Alder Pioneers (9-1, regular season)
Pick: Jonathan Alder

Region 16- # 8 Cincinnati Taft Senators (7-3, regular season) at # 1 Clarksville Clinton-Massie Falcons (10-0, regular season)
Pick: Clinton-Massie

Region 15- # 5 West Portsmouth West Senators (8-2, regular season) at # 4 Sparta Highland Fighting Scots (8-2, regular season)
Pick: West Portsmouth West

NFL Predictions: Week 8 (Cleveland Clowns-free NFL Weekend)

It's Halloween and this weekend, there will be lots of tricks and treats in the thirteen NFL games that will take place on Sunday and Monday.

BYE WEEKS: Atlanta Falcons (5-2), Baltimore Ravens (5-2), Chicago Bears (4-3), Cleveland Browns (2-5), New York Giants (5-2), Philadelphia Eagles (4-3)

GAME OF THE WEEK: Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1) at New Orleans Saints (4-3)- 8:20PM ET on NBC
Last week, the Steelers won, thanks to a controversial call on 4th down, while the Saints imploded against the Browns. The last two teams to win the Super Bowl face off in the Superdome.
Pick: Pittsburgh 31-17

SUNDAY AFTERNOON GAMES:
Denver Broncos (2-5) vs. San Francisco 49ers (1-5)- 1PM ET at Wembley Stadium (London, England) on CBS- REGIONAL GAME OF THE WEEK
Mike Singletary still thinks that the 49ers, at 1-5 can still make the playoffs. Truth is, only the 1970 Cincinnati Bengals have come back from 1-5 and made the playoffs. The Broncos, after a 6-0 start last year, have lost 9 of their last 11, after allowing a club-record 59 points in a 59-14 bloodbath loss to Oakland last week. The 49ers have not been able to close games, losing 4th quarter leads to Atlanta and Carolina, and losing close ones to those two aforementioned teams, plus New Orleans and Philadelphia. 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith will start for the 49ers. Hopefully, Denver puts in Tim Tebow. However, Troy Smith may get the upper hand this time, as opposed to the last time he squared off against Tebow.
Pick: San Francisco 24-14

Miami Dolphins (3-3) at Cincinnati Bengals (2-4)- 1PM ET at Paul Brown Stadium; Cincinnati, OH on CBS
Miami is 3-0 on the road and 0-3 at home. The Bengals can't finish games, losing to Cleveland, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta in the fourth quarter. Last week, after trailing 24-3 at halftime to the Atlanta Falcons, it looked like Cincinnati imploded. However, in the 3rd quarter, the Bengals came back to life, with two scoring drives to cut Atlanta's lead to 24-13. After Matt Ryan was picked off by Leon Hall, Carson Palmer connected to rookie receiver Jordan Shipley for a 62-yard strike to cut the Atlanta lead to five. And then, Falcon receiver Roddy White, who was solid all day, fumbled the ball on the next drive and Adam (formerly nicknamed Pacman) Jones returned it 59 yards to put the Bengals on top 25-24. Jones' season ended on Atlanta's next scoring drive, when White caught a two-point pass.
Back to this week. The Bengals won the last two meetings against Miami, after not beating the Dolphins since 1977. Since the Bengals' last meeting against the Dolphins (a 38-25 Bengal win) in the final game of 2007, the Dolphins have had a complete 360, bringing in the Wildcat. Expect Tony Sparano and Dan Henning (Miami offensive coordinator) to jam Ricky Williams and Ronnie White down the throats of the Bengal defense, and of course, the Wildcat.
Pick: Miami 31-20

Washington Redskins (4-3) at Detroit Lions (2-4)- 1:00PM at Ford Field; Detroit on Fox
The Redskins won 18 straight meetings between 1966 and 2004. Look for the youthful Lions to stop McNabb and crew in Motown. Last week, Washington corner D'Angelo Hall had a big game with an NFL-record four picks in Chicago, including a 92-yard return for what would be the game-winning score.
Pick: Detroit 17-15

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4) at Dallas Cowboys (1-5)- 1:00PM at Cowboys Stadium; Arlington, TX on CBS
If Tony Romo were healthy, this wouldn't be close. But, look for Jacksonville to have a big day in Big D, as Jon Kitna starts for the Cowboys.
Pick: Jacksonville 27-17

Green Bay Packers (4-3) at New York Jets (5-1)- "The Brett Favre Bowl"- 1:00PM at New Meadowlands Stadium; East Rutherford, NJ on Fox
The two teams that Brett Favre used to play for square off in the (New) Meadowlands. Aaron Rodgers had a big night against Favre last week in a 28-24 Green Bay victory. This week, the Jets are well-rested after a bye week, and will look to continue their winning ways.
Pick: NY Jets 27-21

Carolina Panthers (1-5) at St. Louis Rams (3-3)- 1:00PM at Edward Jones Dome; St. Louis, MO on Fox
Pick: St. Louis 21-14

Buffalo Bills (0-6) at Kansas City Chiefs (4-2)- 1:00PM at Arrowhead Stadium; Kansas City, MO on CBS
The Bills are a mess right now, despite almost beating Baltimore last week. This week, they go to Arrowhead to attempt to win a game. The Bills will win a game, but we don't know when, just yet.
Pick: Kansas City 31-27

Tennessee Titans (5-2) at San Diego Chargers (2-5)- 4:05PM at Qualcomm Stadium; San Diego, CA on CBS
Last week, San Diego literally gave away the game to New England, with four turnovers, and a missed field goal try. Also last week, Tennessee receiver Kenny Britt continued his breakout season, emerging with three TD's (after being benched in the first quarter for a bar fight) in a 37-19 win over Philadelphia.
Pick: Tennessee 28-21

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2) at Arizona Cardinals (4-3)- 4:15PM at Univ. of Phoenix Stadium; Glendale, AZ on Fox
Josh Freeman is this year's Comeback Hero, leading Tampa Bay to yet another comeback win, topping St. Louis 18-17 on a game-winning pass to Carnell/Cadillac Williams with only 11 seconds left. Look for Freeman to have a big afternoon in the desert.
Pick: Tampa Bay 24-13

Seattle Seahawks (4-2) at Oakland Raiders (3-4)- 4:15PM at Oakland Coliseum; Oakland, CA on Fox
Last week, Oakland scored a club-record 59 points in a 59-14 "Mile High" annihilation of Denver that was over well into the first quarter. While Oakland won't score 60 points this week, the Raiders of old are slowly coming back.
Pick: Oakland 31-20

Minnesota Vikings (2-4) at New England Patriots (4-2)- 4:15PM at Gillette Stadium; Foxborough, MA on Fox
Randy Moss was on the New England sideline at the beginning of the season. However, during the Patriots bye week, the Pats shipped Moss back to where his career began- the Twin Cities. Now, Moss makes a return to Gillette Stadium, albeit on the opposite sideline as where he began the season. That's not the only story entering this game. Will Brett Favre's 291-game streak continue? Last week, after Favre injured his ankle in last Sunday's loss to Green Bay, there were concerns that Favre would be sidelined, but Favre insists that he will play. No matter what, the Viking ship will hit an iceberg somewhere in Massachusetts.
Pick: New England 27-20

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:
Houston Texans (4-2) at Indianapolis Colts (4-2)- 8:30PM at Lucas Oil Stadium; Indianapolis on ESPN
The last time these two teams faced off, Arian Foster became Indy's worst nightmare, rushing for three TD's in the season opener, a 34-24 Texans win, only the second time that Houston has topped the Colts in their nine year history. However, these two teams are tied for first, and Houston would love to have their first ever sweep of the Colts, but Peyton Manning won't let that happen.
Pick: Indy 35-21

College Football- Week 9

Before we get started, here is what has happened so far this week in College Football.

FINALS:
North Carolina State Wolfpack 28, Florida State Seminoles 24 (NCST: 6-2, 3-1; FSU: 6-2, 4-1)
Boise State Broncos 49, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 20 (BOISE: 7-0, 3-0; LTECH: 3-5, 2-2)

GAMES OF THE WEEK:
# 5 Michigan State Spartans (8-0, 4-0) at # 18 Iowa Hawkeyes (5-2, 2-1)- 3:30PM at Kinnick Stadium; Iowa City, Iowa on ABC/ESPN
Michigan State is 8-0 for the first time since 1966, and is looking to win the Big Ten outright with a Buckeye-free schedule. However, this is the last big test for Michigan State. This is the one game that could trip the Spartans up. Iowa was a missed extra point and an inbound stop with seconds left away from a win over Wisconsin. Iowa has been solid the past few years, and the Hawkeyes would love to play spoiler for the Spartans.
Pick: Iowa 27-24

# 6 Missouri Tigers (7-0, 3-0) at # 14 Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-1, 2-1)- 3:30PM ; Lincoln, Nebraska on ABC/ESPN
For only the third time in school history, and the first time since 1960, Missouri is 7-0, after holding off Oklahoma 36-27. Nebraska, is going to end Missouri's lucky run in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon.
Pick: Nebraska 28-17

OTHER BIG DIVISION I-FBS TOP 25 GAMES:
# 13 Stanford Cardinal (6-1, 3-1) at Washington Huskies (3-4, 2-2)- 7PM
Washington loves to play spoiler, most recently against USC. Stanford comes up to Seattle on Saturday night, and might get upset by the upset-hungry Huskies, led by Jake Locker.
Pick: Stanford 31-29

# 2 Oregon Ducks (7-0, 4-0) at USC Trojans (5-2, 2-2)- 8PM
The Ducks swim into the Coliseum on Saturday night, and could get upset by USC, who in a normal year, would have been bowl eligible with a win.
Pick: USC 34-27

# 4 TCU Horned Frogs (8-0, 4-0) at UNLV Rebels (1-6, 1-2)- 11PM
Pick: TCU 52-0

Colorado Buffaloes (3-4, 0-3) at # 9 Oklahoma Sooners (6-1, 3-1)- 9:15PM
Last week, Oklahoma got beat by a good Missouri team, and this Saturday night, the Sooners will forget all that by making the Buffaloes extinct in the Big 12.
Pick: Oklahoma 47-8

# 11 Ohio State Buckeyes (7-1, 3-1) at Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-7, 0-4)- 8PM
The last time the Buckeyes played outdoors at night, the Buckeyes were exposed for the imposters that they were, down 21-0 against Wisconsin real early in the game, before a failed attempt at a comeback in a 31-18 loss to the Badgers. The last time the Bucks played at Minnesota in the outdoors was 1981 (Reagan was President, Rubik's Cube was the latest fad, MTV was born and only aired music videos, NBC was still in third place, the 49ers were up and coming), in which the Gophers beat the Buckeyes before spending the next 27 years in the Metrodome. However, the Buckeyes won't have a problem tomorrow night, because Minnesota is so awful, and Ohio State forgot about the fact that they are overrated by pasting Purdue 49-0 last week. The Buckeyes will forget that they are overrated for one more week.
Pick: Ohio State 27-0

# 8 Utah Utes (7-0, 4-0) at Air Force Academy Falcons (5-3, 3-2)- 7:30PM ET
Pick: Utah 37-17

# 25 Baylor Bears (6-2, 3-1) at Texas Longhorns (4-3, 2-2)- 7PM ET
This is a role-reversal, because Baylor isn't usually known for anything, and Texas is. However, Baylor is ranked in this matchup for the first time in years, and Texas isn't. However, Texas needs a win to salvage their season and reputation.
Pick: Texas 38-21

Kentucky Wildcats (4-4, 1-4) at # 21 Mississippi State Bulldogs (6-2, 2-2)- 7PM ET
Pick: Mississippi State 28-6

Pick: Arkansas 42-0

# 1 Auburn Tigers (8-0, 5-0) at Ole Miss Rebels (3-4, 1-3)- 6PM ET
Auburn is the new # 1 in the ESPN/BCS poll after Oklahoma's fall from the top last week. The Tigers will more than likely stay there with Heisman hopeful Cam Newton leading the way.

OHIO ATHLETIC CONFERENCE:
Mount Union Purple Raiders (7-0, 6-0) at Otterbein Cardinals (4-3, 3-3)- 1:30PM ET
The last time the Purple Raiders were in Westerville, both Otterbein and Mount Union faced off in a battle of the unbeatens at 8-0. It almost happened last year, as well, but Otterbein lost a week before the game at Marietta. The Purple Raiders have won the last 30 meetings, dating back to 1980. The last time Otterbein played Mount Union close was 1991, as all but a few of the last 30 Mount Union wins over Otterbein were by more than a touchdown. Last year, the Purple Raiders jetted off to a 41-0 halftime lead on their way to a 58-7 win. Anyway, back to 2008. The last time Mount Union was here, they took over the game, from the opening kickoff, literally, as Otterbein kick returner John Wahler fumbled the ball away to Mount Union, which set the tone for that game, a 49-20 Purple Raider victory, in what was a packed house at Memorial Stadium. That was a banner year for the host Cardinals, who made the playoffs for the only time in 2008. While they won't make the playoffs this year, the Cardinals will be playing for pride (and later a third consecutive winning season) in their home swan song of 2010, before finishing with Marietta and Wilmington, who are a combined 2-14. As usual, this one will be over by the end of the first quarter.
Pick: Mount Union 64-0

John Carroll Blue Streaks at Capital Crusaders (both 3-4, 3-3)- 1:30PM ET
Pick: John Carroll 33-20

Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets (6-1, 5-1) at Muskingum Muskies (3-4, 2-4)- 1:30PM ET
Muskingum was 3-1, right? Well, Muskingum is now paying the price for their cakewalk start, after being buried in a 49-14 avalanche in Westerville last week against Otterbein. Expect the Muskies to be stung hard by B-W.
Pick: Baldwin-Wallace 42-7

Ohio Northern Polar Bears (6-1, 5-1) at Marietta Pioneers (2-5, 1-5)- 1:30PM ET
Pick: Ohio Northern 56-0

Heidelberg Student Princes (3-4, 2-4) at Wilmington Quakers (0-7, 0-6)- 6PM ET
Pick: Heidelberg 13-6

OTHER DIVISION I FBS GAMES OF NOTE:
Michigan Wolverines (5-2, 1-2) at Penn State Nittany Lions (4-3, 1-2)- 8PM ET
Sophomore Matt McGloin will start for the Nittany Lions after Rob Bolden was injured in last Saturday's win over Minnesota. However, after a bye week, Michigan returns in an attempt to salvage what mess they have under Rich Rodriguez. This is usually the part where Michigan slides down the black hole of despair. This is an iffy game to pick, because Bolden is hurt (a) and (b) the game is in Happy Valley.
Pick: Find out Saturday at 8PM on ESPN (Michigan 28-27)

Florida Gators (4-3, 2-3) vs. Georgia Bulldogs (4-4, 3-3) at EverBank Field, Jacksonville, FL- 3:30PM ET on CBS
These two SEC rivals meet again, and look for the Bulldogs to overpower Florida, which has been hurt by the graduation of one Timothy R. Tebow.
Pick: Georgia 41-14

Clemson Tigers (4-3, 2-2) at Boston College Eagles (2-5, 0-4)- Noon ET
Pick: Clemson 37-7

Tulsa Golden Hurricane (4-3) at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-4)- 2:30PM ET on NBC
Fox Sports Commentator Jason Whitlock has commentary on the tragedy that took place on Wednesday at Notre Dame's practice, and the aftermath.
Pick: Notre Dame 38-10

Duke Blue Devils (1-6) at Navy Midshipmen (5-2)- 3:30PM
Don't worry, Duke fans. Basketball season is almost here.
Pick: Navy 43-13

NORTH COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE:
Allegheny Gators (5-2, 3-1) at Wabash Little Giants (6-1, 4-0)
Pick: Wabash 28-20

Denison Big Red (3-5, 1-3) at Oberlin Yeomen (2-5, 1-3)
Remember when Denison was 3-0? I surely forgot, but Denison has a good shot at winning and snapping their five-game losing streak against the Yeomen.
Pick: Denison 24-13

Hiram Terriers (1-6, 1-2) at Wooster Fighting Scots (3-4, 2-1)
Pick: Wooster 28-3

Kenyon Lords at Ohio Dominican Battling Bishops (both 0-7, 0-3)
Pick: I'm not touching this one with a 40-foot pole

The Wittenberg Tigers (8-0, 4-0) are off this week after a 27-21 overtime win at Carnegie-Mellon.

OTHER CENTRAL OHIO COLLEGES:
Ohio Dominican Panthers (2-5 both overall and in GLIAC play) at Lake Erie College Storm (1-7, 1-6)
Ohio Dominican, after an 0-5 start have won back-to-back games, besting Findlay 20-10 and Tiffin 41-21, and now head up to the Cleveland area for a third straight win against the struggling Storm of Lake Erie College. The Panthers look like they will weather this Storm, who also picked up their first win of the year against Findlay, last week in a 48-45 shootout.
Pick: Ohio Dominican 28-9
